How to Create a Category in WordPress

Visited 490 times, 2 so far todayCategories are very useful things to have in any blog beacuse it provides your website with a tidy and professional navigation structure and allows your visitors to easily find infomation they are looking for.
To create a new category follow the easy steps below:-
- Login to your WordPress administration panel
- Select Manage ->Categories from the navigation menu

- Click on the link “add new“
- This will take you to the “Add Category” section at the bottom of the page
- Complate the following boxes:
Category Name: Type here what you want to call the category and keep it short and not spammy
Category Slug: This is where Wordpress will create a link, if you are using Permalinks, in otherwords this name will be shown in your url. I tend to keep my category name and category slug the same
Category Parent: Leave this as the default (none) unless you want to create a subcategory in which case you would select the parent category from the drop down menu
Description: Give your category a desciption. This part is optional. - Click the “Add Category” button and your done!
Note: Deleting a category does not delete posts from that category, it will just set them set to the default category Uncategorized.
Rename a Category
Follow steps 1 and 2 above then click the “Edit” Link
Move a post from one category to another:
- Select Manage -> Posts from the navigation menu
- Find the post you want to move and click Edit
- Untick the category you don’t want and tick the category you want to change

- Save the post
